Press Release Body: New Delhi, Huawei Technologies, a leader in providing next
generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world,
today announced a new Corporate Social Responsibility initiative in India. Huawei
India has set a corpus, which will be used for various CSR activities in India. The
activities are part of Huawei\'s global vision, to enrich life through
communication.

The first project launched under the initiative will support the education of
differently-abled children with a sponsorship of Rs 10 lakhs. At an event in Delhi
attended by Ms Sheila Dikshit, Honourable Chief Minister of Delhi and His Excellency
Zhang Yan, Chinese Ambassador to India, Huawei Technologies presented a cheque of Rs
10 lakh to Deepalaya, to extend its support towards providing employment skills to
disabled children.

The project will run for three years and Huawei will support Deepalaya for the
sustained development of differently-abled children. The project aims to create
large-scale awareness about disability, its causes and prevention. It also helps
prepare the children for a life of dignity to bring out their latent talents and
creativity by providing them vocational training and personality and life skills
training.

At the occasion, Mr Max Yang, India CEO, Huawei Technologies said, At Huawei we
plan to undertake many CSR projects in India, and our association with Deepalaya is
a significant one. We want to contribute our share in the growth of the people and
the country and realize our vision of enriching life through communication.

Also present, Mr T. K. Mathews, one of the founders of Deepalaya said, Huawei
understands the needs of the special children and the need to lift them to the level
of individuals who can be self-sufficient.

According to Deepalaya, people with disabilities remain un-represented and live in
conditions of severe poverty and isolation, without proper medical care, educational
or livelihood opportunities, or interaction with the outside world. There is a
two-way link between poverty and disability that creates a vicious circle. Poor
people are at greater risk of acquiring a disability because of lack of access to
good nutrition, health care, sanitation, as well as safe living and working
conditions. Once this happens, people with disabilities face further barriers to the
education, employment, and public services that can help them to escape poverty.

The objectives of this project, within the three-year timescale, are to:
1. Train 50 differently-abled children in the age group of 15-25 yrs from the target
locations in the spheres of vocation, life skills, talent and personality
development. These improved capacities will enable them to lead a life of dignity.
2. Depending on the nature of the training they receive and the improved capacities
and abilities of each trainee, they will be equipped for mainstreaming through job
placements, self entrepreneurship programmes and other efforts that can make them
self reliant.
3. Candidates who successfully complete their training programme will be placed
suitably in various sectors through Deepalayas Placement programme. The programme
strives to connect candidates with potential employers especially employers who
are proactive about recruiting people with disabilities.
4. Under the project, Deepalaya will also motivate and educate the candidates and
employers on various National Awards in conformity with U.N. Resolutions. Each year
on World Disabled Day, awards are given by the President of India to the following:
 Best Employer of handicapped.
 Best handicapped employee and Handicapped Self-employed.
 Placement officers.
